Outreach

Connecting with vulnerable communities where they are.

Our outreach programs provide lifesaving resources and compassionate support to individuals in need.

Facing a crisis can often feel isolating, especially if you don’t know where to turn. Our qualified outreach workers help guide people in crisis to connect with resources and essential services that can help.

The foundation of our program is to cultivate relationships built on trust. Outreach workers treat every individual with dignity and respect. We meet people where they are at. Without judgment, participants can focus on their unique strengths and build capacity.

Wrap around care

Basic needs such as food, clothing, hygiene, medical, safety and survival supplies may be the first step. We provide emotional support and connect individuals with physical and mental health care. We help people access addiction services like harm reduction, detox, treatment and recovery meetings.

We work with participants to identify their unique needs and goals. This may include getting papers ready to apply for housing, filing tax returns, obtaining ID, and/or applying for income assistance or disability benefits.

By combining outreach, health care, and harm reduction, we create holistic solutions that address immediate needs and build pathways to lasting stability.

Harm Reduction

Reducing risks, saving lives—our harm reduction initiatives prioritize safety, education, and non-judgmental care for those navigating challenging circumstances.

Harm reduction saves lives. The Overdose Prevention Site (OPS) was established in Squamish to respond to the drug poisoning public health crisis. By providing on-site care, drug testing, and consumption monitoring, our team gives critical care to those in need. Over 15 poisonings occur here every month. In 2024, our skilled staff reversed 197 toxic drug poisonings to save people from fatal overdose.

Operated by Squamish Helping Hands in partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health, trained staff and volunteers supervise consumption, test drugs, and provide harm reduction services. These services help reduce deaths, hospitalizations, police interactions and instances of drug-related violence.

Removing barriers for people using substances or experiencing mental and physical health challenges, we offer support without stigma or judgement in a culturally-safe manner. We create connections with individuals who are often isolated. We often introduce services, including primary health care, mental health and substance use treatment.

The OPS facility in Squamish:

  • Helps save lives by responding to overdoses quickly.
  • Helps prevent the transmission of infectious diseases.
  • Connects people to health services, including primary care, mental health and substance use treatment.
  • Brings stability to the community by improving public order and reducing consumption taking place on the street.
